Course Aim
Our CPCS A43 Screener training aims to ensure you or your employee has the skills, knowledge and understanding to use the Screener safely and efficiently.
Course Description
The course and assessment will include:
- Elaborate the nature of the sector of industry and their role and responsibilities as plant operators.
- Describe the purpose of principal components, the basic construction, controls and terminology.
- Confirm with the manufacturer’s requirements per the operator’s handbook, different information sources, and relevant regulations and legislation.
- Undertake all pre-use checkings.
- Configure and set for travel.
- Travel over rough, undulating ground and level surfaces.
- Manoeuvre in confined locations.
- Configure and set screening duties to produce aggregate to specified sizes.
- Describe action needed for hazards, underground and overhead services.
- Separate differing types of materials into graded sizes.
- Sort materials into graded sizes.
- The workflow rate maintenance and control.
- Appropriate communication procedures before and during work.
- Illustrate procedures for blockages and foreign object removal.
- Cleaning machine and working area.
- To do shut down and securing procedures.
- Describe the loading, unloading, and machine disassembly procedures for machine transporting.
- Carry out shutdown and securing procedures.
How is the Course assessed?
The completed screener training ends with a theoretical and practical test.
What Certification will I receive?
Our screener training is CPCS accredited. After successful completion of the course, trainees would be given a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

Types of Cards
Trained Operator Card (RED)
The CPCS Red Card, also known as the Trained Operator Card, is a card provided by the CPCS for those that are at the initial stage of their career in plant operation. This card verifies the core skills and knowledge to work in their chosen field (under supervision) while they complete the applicable SVQ or NVQ or other relevant vocational qualifications.
Once you've received your Red CPCS Trained Operator Card, it will last for 2 years. During these 2 years, you must work towards and achieve your NVQ in Plant Operations to upgrade to a Blue CPCS Competence Card.
Competent Operator Card (BLUE)
A Competent Operator Card (COC) is a standardized document issued by the UK's Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) that allows individuals to become authorized construction site supervisors. It confirms that the holder has demonstrated a level of health and safety awareness through a competency based-test, underpinning knowledge previously through a CPCS theory test, operating ability previously through a CPCS practical test, and operating competence on the type of plant (evidenced by an SVQ or NVQ or employer confirmation of competence).
